Outdoor activities
The museum is located in the middle of the nature of the Soesterberg Air Base Park. Take the time for a walk or one of our cool outdoor activities.
In 2026, the outdoor season is open from Friday, April 3rd, to Sunday, October 25th, 2026 and during school holidays. It is then possible to ride in military vehicles every weekend and drive yourself in a mini-jeep.

Race through the tank arena on a World War II tracked vehicle or let your little one take the wheel in a mini jeep or mini quad! Complete your museum visit with our cool outdoor activities. Do you dare to take it on?

Plane spotting
On the outdoor grounds of the National Military Museum, several impressive aircraft are on display, such as the Breguet Atlantic, the Fokker F-27 and the F-86F Sabre. Up close, you can see just how large and impressive these aircraft really are – guaranteed to be a wow moment for young and old!
Explore the local area
Combine your visit to the museum with a nice stroll around the green surroundings and a walk through the military history of the former Soesterberg Air Base.
Walking routes along ‘Munitiepark’ or ‘Landgoed De Paltz’ (Herman van Veen Arts Center) are signposted around the museum. You can also download the overview map (Dutch).
Go on a mission
Take a ride in the mini jeep, race along in a real military vehicle or go all out on the assault course. Outside at the National Military Museum, you can experience it all!
